Franconia (Franken) is a region of northern Bavaria, a state of Germany, that formerly consisted of several small states before it was given to Bavaria by Napoleon. The history of the area stretches back over a thousand years. Franconia has a humid, cool temperate climate, with average monthly temperatures around -2 °C in January and around 19 °C in August, but may reach a peak of about 35 °C for a few days in the summer.
