The natural wonder that is the White Cliffs of Dover has historically been a site where England has defended its coastline, for example during the World Wars. Today, as the UK's closest connection to the coastline of mainland Europe, the crossing from this area to France is an incredibly busy site. Formed by chalk deposits over millions of years, the striking white cliffs were revealed as Britain formed into an island. The iconic landmark has since witnessed a Roman Invasion and been immortalised in art, literature and song.
