This sarcophagus depicts Anubis, a god associated with the afterlife and mummification in Ancient Egypt. One of his roles was the 'weighing of the heart'; Anubis used scales to determine if a person was worthy of entering Duat (the underworld). Inside the coffin, the deceased would be mummified after having their organs removed.
