Hansel and Gretel

This scene takes the form of a small forest in Medieval Germany where Hansel and Gretel live. Students will begin their journey at Hansel and Gretel’s house and can walk through the forest the place where Hansel and Gretel were left by their parents and explore the Gingerbread house which Hansel and Gretel both encounter trying to return home.

# Who were Hansel and Gretel?{.objective .objective1}

In this section students can discover that Hansel and Gretel are two children who live with their father and stepmother. Their family is very poor and cannot afford to buy any food, so their parents leave them alone inside a forest. In this activity students are asked to enter the scene to identify any items that would help Hansel and Gretel find their way back home?

# What happened inside the forest?{.objective .objective2}

In this section Hansel and Gretel get left in the forest but are unable to follow the breadcrumbs back home. Students are encouraged to think of any reasons why some of the breadcrumbs that Hansel had left behind were not there?

# What happened inside the gingerbread house?{.objective .objective3}

In this section the old woman tries to put Hansel in a cage and tells Gretel that she wants to cook him in the oven. Gretel tricks the old lady, so Hansel and Gretel run away from the gingerbread house and back into the forest. Students will enter the scene to discover which item Hansel and Gretel take from the gingerbread house and give to their father.
