The Black Death

This scene takes the form of a reconstructed medieval village. Inside the village, there are two rows of houses with a house on each side that can be explored. In addition to this, there is a street which students can explore to learn about the grim conditions people lived in during the Medieval Period.

Students can learn about the different theories that existed during the medieval period about how the Black Death was caused and the accepted historical view about how the plague was caused. In this activity, students are asked to identify anything that could be a potential cause of the Black Death.

In this section, students can learn about when the Black Death arrived in Europe and the symptoms of The Black Death. In this section, students can learn about the wide variety of treatments that existed for The Black Death. In this activity, students are asked to identify any Medieval treatments for The Black Death.

Students can reflect on the positive and negative effects of The Black Death. In this activity, students are asked to identify anything in the scene that we still use today. Are there any similarities or differences between the Medieval period and the twenty-first century?
