Halloween

The scene lets students explore a cemetery and explore the traditions observed at Halloween. By exploring the burial area and the chapel, students will see a variety of items used and practices observed during this celebration honouring the dead.

# The Origins of Halloween {.objective .objective1}

Students will learn about the origins of Halloween and its origins from the Christian celebration of All Hallows’ Day (All Saints’ Day). They will learn that like many other Christian celebrations that hold a vigil the day before, All Hallows’ Day did as well. Students will learn about the traditions of going to church, praying for the dead and honouring saints.

# The Customs {.objective .objective2}

Students will be asked to look for clues for the various traditions. They will be asked to identify what traditions indicate celebrating the dead, and the traditions adapted by the modern society that has spread around the world, especially Europe.
