Description

The scene lets students explore a typical camp made by the San people. The camp is made up of huts, artefacts, and San people in typical outfits. Students will explore and learn about the San as indigenous hunter-gatherers of southern Africa and understand how they survived and made the lands within the Kalahari Desert, across Botswana, Nambia, and southeastern Angola their homes.

# Who are the San?{.objective .objective1}

Students will learn about the origin of the San and where they live. They will learn how the San people established a network of tribes across the Kalahari and adjacent regions. Students will be asked to explore the scene and look for clues that the San lived in a desert.

# How did the San People Survive the Harsh African Environment? {.objective .objective2}

Students will learn about the San hunted animals to survive and did so with deep knowledge of the terrain and animal habits. Students will learn that the San were very skilled hunters and were able to efficiently catch their prey quickly and quietly. Students will also learn how the San population was repressed by colonisers who pushed them out of their lands.

# Culture{.objective .objective3}

Students will explore the scene and identify clues that suggest the tribe is settled in a new area away from a tomb or burial site. They will learn that the tribal structure consists of around 50 family members and that everyone in the tribe is involved in decision-making. They will further learn about the rites of passage, marriage, death, and sharing of food and that men and women had specific roles within a tribe yet regarded each other as equals.
