Unification of Italy

The scene lets students explore the historical event, The Unification of Italy. Here, students will be able to observe and compare the changes in occupation of territories and states from before the Risorgimento, during the unification and near the end of the main part of the changes. Students will also learn about the main protagonists who actively supported the ideology of unification and were significant in the lead up to and during the risorgimento.

# A divided Country{.objective .objective1}

In this section an outline of how Italy was a fragmented country, with numerous states under the control of different leaders and monarchies, will be provided.

Students will be asked to explore the scene and explore the map dated 1860. They will be asked to look for clues that Italy wasn’t unified and to move the flags outside the map room onto the correct location of the ruling city state.

# Il Risorgimento{.objective .objective2}

In this section, a description of the influence the Napoleonic era had on Italy will be provided. The structured unification of most of the peninsula led to the ideology of a unified political state.

Students will be asked to explore the scene and compare the remaining maps. They will be asked to identify the changes in states after the 1860. Students can move the remaining flags of controlling states on the maps.

# The Leaders{.objective .objective3}

In this section, the leading figures and groups that played a significant role in the Risorgimento and the unification of Italy will be outlined.

Students will be asked to explore the scene and discuss the political activists of the Risorgimento. They will be asked to think about how dangerous it was for them to lead the revolution and why most of it occurred ‘underground’.
