Capital letters and Full-Stops

This scene guides students through three parts of a story, allowing them to recap the rules of using capital letters and full stops. They will follow the story of Cornelius the Capital Letter Dragon, who has been invited to a birthday party. Students will be asked to help Cornelius by reading and replying to the invitation using capital letters and full stops.

# Capital Letters{.objective .objective1}

Students will find themselves in Cornelius’s kitchen. They will see that he is reading a rule book on how to use capital letters. A large copy of the invitation will be printed on the wall with movable frames which can be placed over the letters that need to be capitalised.

Students can be encouraged to recap the rules before attempting the interactive exercise.



# Full Stops{.objective .objective2}

Students can move out of the kitchen and into the playground. As they enter, they will see a copy of the corrected party invitation in the sandpit which they can use to check their answers.

They will be instructed to help Cornelius respond to the invitation by placing the movable circles over the areas to place full stops on the RSVP printed on the side of the fence. The rules on how to use full stops will be placed next to Freddy the Full Stop Dragon.



# The Birthday Party{.objective .objective2}

The next room will take students into the birthday party. Here, they will be able to check their answers on the RSVP placed on the table. Students can be encouraged to reflect on the story and the steps Cornelius needed to take before he arrived at the party. They can consider which parts of the scene would represent the beginning, middle and end of the story.

There are interactive elements in the party room: a ‘pin-the-dragon' game; movable party hats and a present which can be opened. Students will also notice that their avatars appear wearing party hats when they enter the party room.
