Adverbs

After enjoying the sweet treats of Cassia’s ice-cream shop, students can enter the factory through the shop doors and see how the ice-cream is made. Here, students will meet some familiar characters, each accompanied by a text box describing what they are doing.

Students are tasked with determining the types of adverbs featured in the text, marking them with a movable label.

# What is an Adverb?{.objective .objective1}

Students are advised to read through this section before completing the scene tasks, which gives an overview of what adverbs are and how they are used along with examples.

Encourage them to explore the factory and identify the characters they see. If they are not familiar with the characters, who feature in other Literacy Land scenes, ask them to describe them and discuss what their role in the factory could be.


# What are the different types of adverbs?{.objective .objective2}

Adverbs can take different forms for different purposes. This section describes adverbs of time, frequency, manner, degree and place.

Students should read the text within the scene and determine which words are adverbs. They should then move the labels ‘Time’, ‘Frequency’, ‘Manner’, ‘Degree’ and ‘Place’ to the adverbs in the sentences.
