**Key Elements and scene Summary**
Inspired by the Royal Mint, this scene is an extension to the ‘Money – Coins and Notes' scene where students will have been introduced to the Euro currency. Throughout the scene, models of coins and notes will be on display, as well as combinations of coins to be used to determine total values.
Throughout the scene, there will be benches where a coin or note will be visible on the surface, and a space for money to be placed. Movable combinations can be interacted with around the room, where students will need to move them to the correct bench. They will need to determine the combinations that make up the total value on the benches.
# Learning objectives
1. Use the € and c signs to recognise the value of money.{.info}
2. Combine amounts of money to make values.{.info}
# Coins and Notes{.objective .objective1}
- Use the scene as an opportunity to review prior knowledge of coins and notes. Students will explore models of coins and notes and should be able to recognise and determine their value.
- Students should be asked to identify the cents and the Euros. They should be asked to put the coins and notes in order of lowest to greatest value.
# Combining Coins{.objective .objective2}
- Students can be reminded that coins and notes aren’t used on their own. They can be combined to make up different values. They should be mindful that for every 100 cents it makes up €1 in their totals.
- Students should be encouraged to make up different values using combinations of coins. How about asking students to make up €1 in as many different ways and write it down.
# How Much?{.objective .objective3}
Now that students have grasped the idea that combinations of coins can make up particular values, they will be able to complete an interactive task. Around the scene there will movable combinations of coins. These will add up to the total amounts on each of the benches.
Ask students to explore the benches and values they need to make up. They should then place a specific movable combination of coins to the correct bench.
