Placa Catalunya is at the centre of Barcelona, to the South stands the Barri Gothic (or old town), to the North the 19th century built city. From this large square many of Barcelona's main avenues lead off, and beneath sits a major metro and rail interchange. Statues and fountains surround the central expanse.
