Description

Scots Pine is a conifer naturally occurring in Eurasia, it thrives in nutrient-poor soils. It can reach up to 40 m and live as long as 300 years. Its needles grow in fascicles of two. The pollen grains have two air-sacs to facilitate dispersion by wind. Mature cones open up and release seeds after three years. The wood is resistant to moisture and is used in construction. Essential oil from the pine has antiseptic effects. The Eurasian nuthatch bird uses scales of the bark as a bedding in its nest.
