Description

The Norway Spruce is one of two spruce species naturally occurring in Europe. It is an economically important conifer and has been commonly grown in monocultures. Its root system is shallow, so it can easily uproot. Needles of the tree are dark green and grow to up to 2 cm (0.8 inches) long. Mature cones point downwards and do not fall apart. The spruce wood is used e.g. for manufacturing the top plate of guitars and string instruments (violins, double basses…). It is also an important material for the production of paper.
