Description

The small-leaved lime is a tree up to 30 m (ca 100 feet) high. It is commonly planted in cultural landscape. It often creates new branches at the base of the trunk. Its leaves are cordate, with serrate margins and small tufts of brown hair in the vein axils. The inflorescence consists of 4–12 greenish flowers in axil of a bract. The bract ensures that the fruits fly away from the tree. The flowers can be used for making tea and the wood is used for carving. The lime is a national tree of the Czech Republic.
