Description

Elasmosaurus belongs to the largest Plesiosaurids. The length exceeds to 14‒15 meters and the weight is supposed to be a little bit more than 2 tons. The genus is characterized by abnormally long neck (containing about 70 vertebrae), small head and typical indentation (with marked premaxillar frontal teeth). Limbs are modified into four massive paddles. The tail is short and huge. Elasmosaurids inhabited the Late Cretaceous seas in North America and Europe 80 Ma.
