Description

Cretoxyrhina is one of the largest Mesozoic sharks. It belongs to the modern neoselachian sharks. The lenght exceeds 7 metres. Jaws possessed more than 250 knife-like teeth. The length of teeth extends up to 7 cm. Cretoxyrhina inhabited the Upper Cretaceous (98‒82 Ma) epicontinetal seas of Europe and Northern America. The prey were larger vertebrates, including also marine reptiles.
