Description

Cretoxyrhina is one of the largest Mesozoic sharks. It belongs to the group of modern Neoselachian sharks with the length exceeding to 7 metres and cartilaginous skeleton. Their jaws possessed more than 250 knife-like teeth. The length of teeth was up to 7 cm. Cretoxyrhina inhabited the Upper Cretaceous (98‒82 Ma) epicontinetal seas of Europe and North America. Their prey were larger vertebrates, including marine reptiles.
