Description

Herbivorous Sauropelta belongs among medium-sized Ankylosaurs. The length is 5‒6 meters, and weight is calculated to be 1,5 tons. The skull is massive, triangular in the dorsal view and about 35 cm wide. Teeth are small and leaf-like shaped. Massive limbs are situated under the body, the tail is relatively long. The body is covered with bony plates. The neck and the shoulder possess marked conical spines, in the shoulder region they exceed almost to 50 cm in length. Sauropelta is known from the Lower Cretaceous sediments (108‒106 Ma) of the North America territory.
