Description

Hybridization sp² is used for the description of ethene (ethylene) molecule. When bonding between carbon atoms occurs, two sp² orbitals form the σ-bond and further over and below occurs the junction of the cores to overlap non-hybrid p-orbitals to form one π-binding. A double bond is formed by one σ-bond and one π-bond.

When bonding between a carbon atom and a hydrogen atom occurs, the sp² orbital and s-orbital are overlapped to form the σ-bonds (simple bonds are formed).
