**Information:** Glycerol is a colourless, viscous, non-toxic liquid with a characteristic sweet taste.

**Use:** It is used in the food industry for the preparation of soaps, shaving foams and cold medications. Nitration of glycerol forms the famous nitroglycerin which is a very unstable explosive.
