**Information:** Urea is a white solid. Urea was first synthesized artificially by treating silver cyanate with ammonium chloride (Friedrich Wohler, 1828).

**Use:** It is used to produce plastics (urea-formaldehyde resins), fertilizers and pharmaceuticals.

**Appearance:** Urea is the waste product of the metabolism of mammals, amphibians, certain fish and is therefore present in their urine.
