**Diastereomers** are **stereoisomers** that unlike enantiomers are not mirror images. It is as if we had two left hands on one side of the mirror and one left and one right hand on the other side. Among diastereomers are also the ***cis/trans* isomers**. Special types of diastereomers are **epimers** which differ in their bonds orientation on one of more chiral carbons.
