**Information:** Nickel is a poisonous, malleable, traction metal with a silver colour. It has ferromagnetic properties (it exhibits spontaneous magnetization).

**Use:** It is used in alloy production and passivation (nickel plating) of other metals.

**Occurrence:** Nickel is relatively richly present in earth's crust, large quantities are contained in the core of the Earth. Among its most important minerals are pentlandite (Ni, Fe)₉S₈ or nickel sulfide NiS.

**Structure:** The nickel crystallizes into a cubic (cubic) system (a surface-centered base cell).
