**Info:** Halite, commonly known as rock salt, is a mineral with a distinctive salty taste, which occurs with other evaporite deposit minerals such as gypsum (sulphate) and limestone (carbonates). The mineral is typically colourless or white, but may also be light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow or grey depending on the amount and type of impurities. Halite occurs most frequently in the form of granular or fibrous aggregates or often isometric crystals. It is used mainly in the food industry, glass-blowing and metallurgy.
