**Phyllite**

**Petrology:** Sericite, chlorite, quartz, plagioclase (albite), biotite are rock-forming minerals. Chlorite causes grey-green colour, sericite typical silky luster.

**Genesis:** Phyllite is a type of foliated metamorphic rock created from shale or pelite. Phyllite is usually black to grey or light greenish grey in colour. It has a good fissility (a tendency to split into sheets) and was historically used as roofing material.
