Description

**Artesian well** can be defined as a flow of water under natural pressure, released on the surface.

For artesian aquifer to happen, layer of **permeable material** (sand, limestone etc.) must be dipped by underground water, through which it flows. An **impermeable layer** of rocks or clay traps the artesian aquifer, creating a positive pressure. Bottom layer is supported by **bedrock**. Initiator of the process are numerous and large enough cracks in upper impermeable layer, through which water can flow under pressure. In order for artesian well to occur, the water table of its source has to reach the surface. Force, which drives water on the surface is commonly referred as **artesian pressure**.
