Description

A *cromlech* is a specific form of *megalithic structure*, i.e., an object made of large, usually only lightly worked stones. They are still found today mainly in northwestern Europe, especially in the British Isles, and in the Mediterranean. The oldest *megalithic structures* date from the *Neolithic* period, and the youngest from the *Late Bronze Age* (c. 9000-1200 BC). They were probably used for cult, ritual, and funerary ceremonies.

A *cromlech* is a grouping of erect megaliths in a semicircular, circular, elliptical, or oval structure.
