Description

The *Poulnabrone Dolmen* is a large megalithic structure located in western Ireland. It consists of a trio of upright megaliths with a horizontal lintel. The entire structure is over 4 meters long and 2-3 meters wide. The lintel is almost 30 centimeters thick. The supporting pillars are over 2 meters high. The structure is dated to the *Neolithic* between 4200-2900 B.C. The entire structure was originally covered by an earthen mound and was used for ritual and funerary purposes. Archaeological excavations in the area have documented over thirty remains, mostly of persons under the age of thirty.
