# Fish Farming and Sustainable Fishing

Climb aboard a fishing boat and sail across the world of fishing. Through immersion and observation, discover how overfishing by humans is depleting our natural fisheries and impacting the oceans’ biodiversity. Students should understand how fish farms are used to improve the sustainability of natural fisheries.

## Key Learning Outcomes:

1. Describe what fisheries are
2. Describe how overfishing depletes natural fisheries
3. Explain how fish farms promote the sustainability of natural fisheries

## How to Use This Playlist:

This playlist includes a range of resources designed to help students develop an understanding of how overfishing is depleting the oceans’ biodiversity, and how the development of fish farms has contributed to making natural fisheries more sustainable.

Here are some suggestions on how to use the resources:

***Wild Fisheries and Sustainability Explorable Scene*** - Your students will climb aboard a fishing boat and immerse themselves in the fishing industry. They can observe and develop an understanding of commercial fishing from natural fisheries. Encourage students to discuss how the large and ever-growing human population may impact how much fish is removed from natural fisheries.

***360 images*** - By observing and analyzing these images, students should be able to identify that specialist equipment is needed to obtain fish in large quantities. This should encourage students to discuss how the overuse of the equipment may affect the ocean floor habitat and the fish population.

- [Fishing village1](https://scene.link/PZH-f7s/cvr360-fishing-village1)

***Fisheries - Fish Farms Explorable Scene*** - Your students can immerse themselves and explore what fish farms are designed to achieve. Students will explore specialist enclosures where fish are reared to maturity until they are collected and distributed as a food product. They should be encouraged to evaluate fish farms as a sustainable practice that minimizes overfishing of natural fisheries.

***360 Images*** - By observing and analyzing these images of a range of fish farms, students will be able to describe how fish farms vary in scale and can supply different quantities of fish as a source of food without disturbing natural fisheries. Students will deepen their understanding of fish farms as one of many sustainable practices for managing overfishing of natural fisheries.
