# Farming Food from Livestock

Explore the open fields and discover how farming produces the food we eat. Through immersion and observations, students can develop an understanding of how livestock is managed by farmers as a source of food.

## Key Learning Outcomes:

1. List appropriate examples of food obtained from farmed animals
2. Correctly describe the resources needed to farm animals
3. Present an understanding of why some farmers keep animals indoors

## How to Use This Playlist:

This playlist contains a range of resources designed to help students develop a better understanding of how farming livestock provides a variety of food products.

Here are some suggestions on how to use the resources:

***3D Model*** – Observing this model of a cow, students can discuss what food products are obtained from cows, such as milk and meat, as well as what other foods can be made from milk.

***3D Model*** – This model can be used to focus student discussion on what food products are obtained from chickens.

***360 Images*** – By observing these 360 images of livestock that are left to graze outdoors, students can identify and discuss their farming requirements, such as the amount of food needed to meet their energy demands. This can be linked to the extensive area of land needed to provide enough grass as a source of food.

***360 Images*** – By observing these 360 images of a ranch (barn) and animal bazaar, students can analyse how keeping farmed animals indoors and restricting their movement has a beneficial effect on food production. This practice lowers the animal’s energy need and therefore reduces waste.
