# Setting the Scene on the Tempest

Take a trip to Prospero’s magical island and discover the themes of Shakespeare’s romance play The Tempest. Through immersion and analysis, students can explore how the themes of isolation, power and illusion are represented in the story.

## Key Learning Outcomes:

1. Accurately describe key characteristics of the environment where the Tempest is set
2. Explain how the remote setting, island conditions, and changing landscape contribute to the themes of isolation, power, and illusion
3. Plan and devise a new environment for the Tempest setting as if it were taking place in the modern day

## How to Use This Playlist:

The playlist includes a range of resources designed to help students develop a better understanding of The Tempest setting, how this setting contributes to key themes, and how to apply this knowledge to create a new environment.

Here are some suggestions on how to use the resources:

***The Tempest Explorable Scene*** – Your students can bring the story of The Tempest to life by immersing themselves in the magic and intrigue of the ever-changing landscape. Ask your students to explore the scene and make notes of the setting and artefacts as they go along.

***360 Images*** – By observing these images, students can begin to analyse and explain how the island's remote setting contributes to the play's key themes of isolation and betrayal. Using these 360 images, you can ask students to design a new environment for The Tempest. Where would it be set in the modern world if they were directing their own version of The Tempest?
